    I have no grudges against engineers as such, but am curious about the feminist-bit you mentioned. Sort of rung alarm bells 😀 Would be interesting to know about that…

    • Thanks for the appreciation! I’m glad you liked it. But I wonder why feminism rings alarm bells? Unless you think women should be below men in all walks of life, you are a feminist too.

      Since you’ve commented on the one “controversial” thing on my about page, I’m going to take the liberty of lecturing a bit. Bear with me. 🙂

      What is so alarming about equal rights? I know the expression “equal rights” sounds horribly clichéd but that’s what feminism is all about, isn’t it? Maybe the reason why there’s so much controversy about feminism is because the meaning isn’t clear.

      I would definitely like to know your viewpoint on the matter. Thanks again for visiting my blog!

      • To be honest, at times, I do like to play around with bloggers. So yes, I admit that I pinched about the feminism thing intentionally- knowing well in advance what your reaction would be.

        First things first. Someone who doesn’t tag himself as feminist is not necessarily a male chauvinist. It is like pairing those who criticise government policies with terrorists. Anti-government is not anti-national. Non-feminist is not a male chauvinist.

        One of my professions( yes, more than one ), gives me a chance to interact with top female activists of the country. There are those who try to tell you that they are concerned about women and their rights. They shout, they sit on dharnas in their fancy saarees and travel in BMWs.. But there is also this category of women I come across, who do not bother with the nomenclature and just do things. While the former goes on to make noise over issues as irrelevant as why a girl student failed in school, the latter goes to student’s home and teaches her for 6 months straight. My perception of feminists (the former category) is rather practical than what you read on wikipedia and those books of Taslima Nasreen. So yes, I don’t think feminism is going to solve things for your gender. Humanism might, if you give it ia chance.

        I rather should not tell you which side I am on. Even the rapists would tell you that they support female cause if you ask them. Its our actions, and not our beliefs, which should characterise us.

        The other thing I would like to point to is your stress on equality of rights. “Equality” is a term associated with criminal justice discourses and does not pair well with social issues. So, allow me to propose ‘equity’, if I may, for more effective.

        About picking up the controversial-things: I guess I like to keep life interesting by doing so 🙂

      • Perhaps my use of the word feminism makes it sound too gender-specific. But feminism isn’t exclusively for women. It focusses more on the problems of patriarchy. I think you’re misunderstanding me when I say equal rights. I’m not concentrating on women alone. I think feminism is closely tied to humanism, and I’ll have to say that to be a feminist is to be a humanist. But as you said, we shouldn’t really worry about the nomenclature, and if the label of feminist feels limiting, then it’s totally fine to discard it, as long as the general idea remains the same.

And I definitely wouldn’t want to live in a “bubble” of naivety; it’s important for me to know how other people think. So, your opinions are most welcome and no apology needed. 🙂

    I love so many things about you and your blog is so put together, your such an inspiration. As a fellow feminist, I’m emailing you to let you know my blogging friend, Annmarie, and I are launching a challenge in hopes that many people join along. I started up my small photo biz called Painted Eye Photography a few years back and have been really hesitant to jump right in because fully submerging myself, and taking this gamble with my career has scared me. Annmarie’s passion started as a hobby and now she’s working in the direction of starting her own business up as well. So while collaboration and helping each other out with blogging, photography, and business practice we have started a very unique friendship.
    Combing part of out business names together, “Swiftly Painted” was born! I have always been really interested in self-portrait photography, since my “365 days” self-portrait series, taken over the course at my senior year in college. Annmarie had a new found desire to tackle this after my monthly challenge this past month called “ Annette in August.” We decided to create a new challenge called “ The #SwiftlyPainted Self-Portrait Challenge.” This will entail a series of 13 self-portraits, taken every first of the month, for one year. There will also be a writing prompt included in every month’s description.
    We’re hoping that with this will get people on board with self-exploration, commitment, blogging regularly, and meeting more bloggers like us. So we want to extend the invite to you and ask you to embark on this blogging journey with us. We also wouldn’t mind if you spread the word to all your fellow blogger friends that you think might be interested, and or maybe even a shout out in your blog with a link to ours! We can’t wait to you !

  14. Wow what a super about page!! I also love reading, believe in equality, love collecting picture postcards and just discovered a name for it!, love traveling, have learnt classical music for 2 years, classical dance for 4 years, love old hindi songs and love your blog too!!!
